El Pombéro – Argentina

Nearest city: Gran Chaco forests, Chaco Province

El Pombéro is a mischievous, shape-shifting figure from Guaraní folklore, most often described as a short, hairy forest-dweller with the power to move silently and control animals. Said to live in the Gran Chaco forests of northern Argentina, El Pombéro can turn invisible, stretch his limbs, or mimic bird calls to confuse travelers. Locals leave offerings of tobacco and rum to appease him, as he is believed to bring bad luck or even abduct women who mock him. While rooted in myth, modern reports persist of shadowy figures, eerie whistles, and unexplained encounters in the Chaco, keeping El Pombéro alive as one of Argentina’s most feared supernatural beings.
