Orang Mawas – Malaysia
Nearest city: Endau-Rompin National Park, Johor
The Orang Mawas, sometimes called Orang Dalam (“people of the interior”), is Malaysia’s answer to Bigfoot. Described as a 10-foot-tall, ape-like creature covered in black hair. Reports surged in the 1970s and 80s, with villagers describing huge footprints, livestock raids, and eerie howls at night. In 2006, Malaysian newspapers covered fresh sightings by plantation workers, prompting government interest, though no conclusive evidence was found. Today, expeditions still search Johor’s jungles, and alleged footprints occasionally make the news, keeping Orang Mawas one of Southeast Asia’s most enduring cryptid mysteries
