In the mythology of Flores’ Nage people, the Ebu Gogo are small, hairy humanoids about 1.5 m tall, with broad faces and parrotlike mimicry skills. One tale recounts how villagers gifted palm fiber clothing to the Ebu Gogo, only for them to be driven into a cave that was then set aflame—perhaps marking the end of this legendary group. Some scientists speculated the tales echo memories of Homo floresiensis, the “Hobbit” hominid species once native to the island but modern evidence dates them to extinction thousands of years ago
