China’s legendary “Wild Man”, the Yeren, has been sighted deep within the fog-laden forests of Shennongjia since ancient dynasties. In the 1970s and 80s, the Chinese Academy of Sciences launched expeditions that collected alleged footprints and hair samples, today the Yeren remains a cultural icon amid fading scientific interest. Modern sightings still spark environmental awareness campaigns and draw curious tourists to China’s misty wilderness
