Bass Strait Triangle

Between Victoria and Tasmania, the Bass Strait has a reputation for violent weather, shipwrecks, and unexplained vanishings. Its most famous case is the 1978 disappearance of pilot Frederick Valentich in his Cessna 182L (VH-DSJ). Before contact was lost, he radioed Melbourne Control that a “long metallic craft with green lights” was hovering and orbiting his plane; his final words were, “It’s not an aircraft.” Despite a massive search, no wreckage was found. Fishermen and sailors continue to report glowing lights skimming the water and fast-moving aerial objects vanishing into the sea.
