On April 6, 1966, more than 200 students and teachers from Westall High School and nearby institutions in Melbourne reported seeing a silver, saucer-shaped craft descend into a nearby field before quickly ascending and vanishing. Witnesses described multiple flying objects, military aircraft arriving soon after, and men in suits who warned people to stay quiet. Despite the scale of the sighting, no official explanation was ever given. Today it is remembered as Australia’s most significant mass UFO encounter, with annual commemorations and documentaries keeping the mystery alive.
