Known as the “Abominable Snowman,” the Yeti is the most famous cryptid of the Himalayas, described as a tall, ape-like creature adapted to the high-altitude snows. Sherpa folklore reveres the Yeti as a guardian spirit of the mountains, but Western attention spiked in 1951 when Eric Shipton photographed large footprints on Everest’s slopes. Subsequent expeditions, including a 1954 Daily Mail–funded trek, collected alleged hair and scat samples. Even in the 21st century, mountaineers and trekkers continue to report unexplained tracks and fleeting figures, keeping the Yeti firmly at the heart of Himalayan mystery.
