Hidden beneath South Bridge (opened 1788), these stone chambers once housed workshops, taverns and, later, overcrowded slums before being sealed by damp and darkness. Since their rediscovery in the 1980s, visitors report sudden cold spots, whispers and children’s laughter in empty rooms, plus a tall shadow figure pacing the archways.
