Built in 1873 as a private residence, the Old Tooele Hospital evolved into a poorhouse, public hospital, and eventually a haunted attraction known as Asylum 49. The site is infamous for intense paranormal activity, including disembodied voices, shadow figures, cold spots, and ghostly mists. Spirits said to haunt the building include Samuel F. Lee (its original owner), his son Thomas, a confused patient named Wes, and a nurse named Maria who allegedly guards a portal to the afterlife. Paranormal investigators have documented thousands of EVPs, orbs, and unexplained phenomena. Despite its haunted reputation, half the building still operates as a senior living facility, creating a surreal overlap between the living and the spectral.
