Located at 8852 Sunset Boulevard, The Viper Room is one of Los Angeles’ most infamous nightclubs, steeped in celebrity tragedy, mobster lore and paranormal phenomena. Originally a grocery store in the 1920s, the building evolved through multiple incarnations including The Melody Room (a known mob hangout) before becoming The Viper Room in 1993, co-founded by Johnny Depp. The club gained notoriety after River Phoenix collapsed and died of a drug overdose on the sidewalk outside on Halloween night, 1993. Paranormal reports include disembodied voices, phantom touches, flying glassware, and ghostly text messages from unknown numbers. Investigators believe the club may sit atop a spiritual portal; with entities linked to mob violence, drug overdoses and unsolved disappearances.
