Built in the early 1860’s, the site of the hotel and the surrounding area have a very dark past. 35 miners lost their lives in Nevada’s worst mining accident of all time just behind the hotel.Their spirits are said to haunt the area, Visitors of room 5 which used to be the room of a miner called William claim to smell tobacco. Hotel doors slam shut, apparitions are seen walking the hallways and a lady of the night Rosie who stayed in room 4 can sometimes be seen in the room.
