Between 1977 and 1978, residents of Colares Island reported nightly attacks by luminous aerial objects known locally as “chupa-chupa,” which emitted focused beams that caused burns, puncture wounds, paralysis, anemia, and radiation-like symptoms. The Brazilian Air Force launched Operação Prato, documenting hundreds of incidents with photographs, drawings, and medical reports under Captain Uyrangê Hollanda, who later stated the phenomena were intelligently controlled craft, not natural events. Witnesses consistently described structured objects, low-altitude flight, and targeted behaviour toward humans, particularly women. Despite the volume of evidence, the operation was abruptly shut down, making Colares one of the most severe and disturbing civilian UFO cases ever officially investigated.
