Case Overview
What happened at Adelaide Gaol?
Operating as a “city of the confined” for 147 years, this fortress is anchored by the spirits of 45 executed inmates, many of whom remain buried in unmarked graves within the “Execution Yard.” The most aggressive entity is Frederick Carr, the last man hanged at the gaol, whose shadow is frequently filmed pacing the “New Building” corridors and manifesting as a “heavy, suffocating pressure” in the cells. Modern activity is concentrated in the Hanging Tower, where visitors document their clothing being tugged and capture “Class A” EVPs of a man’s frantic, repetitive praying. The spirit of the first governor, William Baker Ashton, is a “civil” presence, often seen in full 19th-century uniform near the main gates, accompanied by the scent of old parchment and pipe tobacco. Recent 2025 paranormal vlogs highlight “intelligent” responses from a spirit known as “The Keeper” in the medical wing, who reportedly interacts with modern medical equipment by triggering EMF spikes on command.
